Guardrail Maintenance and Repair

Course Description:

The objective of this training is to provide the participant with the tools to improve their knowledge of guardrail applications, guardrail types, basic terminology, guardrail components, and basic repair techniques. This workshop will look at design principles but is not intended to provide participants with the knowledge to design or evaluate the need for guardrail. This is a basic awareness course; those participating in this training will improve their technical knowledge, and be able to correctly identify major guardrail and end section components, and materials used in bridge construction and maintenance.

An elective Roads Scholar Level I course.

Course Objectives:

The overall course goal is to provide guardrail installers, inspectors, and maintenance personnel the information needed to inspect or maintain barriers as efficiently and effectively as practical. Specifically, participants should be able to be more aware of the following:

• Identify possible deficiencies in a new barrier design or existing installations
• Inspect and repair safety hardware following existing policies and good practices
• Avoid common errors in barrier and terminal installations to optimize crash performance and reduce liability
• Know whether damaged hardware needs to be repaired, replaced, upgraded, or removed

Cancelation Policy:

We request that you cancel at least a week before a scheduled class. If someone from your agency can not attend a scheduled class, a replacement from your agency may attend in their place, as long as kutc_training@ku.edu is notified of the change.

50% refund if you cancel 3-6 days before a class

No refund if you cancel 0-2 days before a class
